American has often been regarded as the land of equal opportunity.    1       , a close look at the history of the U.S. and the state of minorities reveals quite a different picture.Opportunities are still not equally available to all members of American society.    2    , women are largely underrepresented in top positions in many fields today.      3   , Blacks and Hispanics are also underrepresented.   4     , they make up a large percentage of those living in poverty.       5   , America is a land of unequal opportunities.
